A boat service which was reinstated while a car ferry was out of action for maintenance is going to continue.

The Cross Lake shuttle boat links the eastern shore of Windermere at Bowness to areas including Claife, Sawrey, Hawkshead and Coniston.

The boat service returned in mid-April when the ferry between Ferry Nab and Ferry House was taken out of action for several weeks.

Operator Windermere Lake Cruises said, despite ferry services resuming, it was "clear" there was still a popular demand.

"The Mallard" passenger ferry, operated by Westmorland and Furness Council, can carry up to 18 cars and more than 100 passengers.

It was out of service, external for just under six weeks and brought back into operation in May following a Maritime Coastguard Agency mandatory inspection and refit.

Jennifer Cormack, Sales and Marketing Director at Windermere Lake Cruises, said: "This is the first time since 2019 the Cross Lake Shuttle, external has operated and we are delighted it has proved so popular with passengers."
