A burglar was caught in the act after breaking into a Derbyshire school.

Callum James had burgled a home in Willington before forcing his way into a nearby school.

Derbyshire Police said officers arrived on Castle Way on 2 May to find James inside the school building.

The 27-year-old had a bike with him that he had taken during the earlier burglary.

He admitted the two burglaries as well as going equipped for burglary, theft, and using abusive language towards police officers at the time of arrest when he appeared at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court in Derby the following day.

And on Friday, James, of no fixed abode, was jailed for two years and eight months at Derby Crown Court.
