Guernsey population increases by 1%

The Guernsey population has increased by 1% in 2023, a census has found.

The latest Population, Employment and Earnings report, external said the population had risen from 64,234 in 2022 to 64,421 in 2023 - an additional 645 people.

It said there was a "natural decrease" of 144 people and a net migration of 789 people by June 2023.

Median earnings by the end of 2023 were 7% higher in nominal terms than the year before at £41,564.

The number of employers decreased by 0.4%, with 15% employing in the construction sector.

A total of 23.2% of all employment roles by December 2023 were finance, legal or accounting roles.
