The design and layout for more than 200 new homes in a Wiltshire town have been approved.

Gladman Developments had previously been given outline permission by Swindon Borough Council’s planning committee for 250 houses to be built on farmland to the east of Shrivenham Road in Highworth.

But the number of homes was reduced to 238 in an application for approval of how the houses will look, which was submitted on behalf of David Wilson Homes.

The plans state that 71 of the homes will be classed as 'affordable', meaning they will be made available for rent at 80% of the market rate.

The plan shows the houses will be set out on the rectangular plot in three sections, with the main road access from Shrivenham Road.

A public right of way footpath will run across the middle of the site to fields either side and two play areas will also be included.

Flood prevention ponds will be placed to the western boundary of the site.

The planning officer’s report said that the proposals had been "subject to numerous revisions" following discussions between officers and the developers.
