Market revamp plans on show at exhibition

A new exhibition aims to show traders and shoppers improvement plans for Newton Abbot's Market Hall.
Teignbridge District Council said the exhibition would begin with a traders' event on Wednesday where businesses could discuss relocation plans as work on the market takes place.
It said the second part of the event from Thursday to Saturday between 11:00 to 14:00 BST would give residents, visitors and shoppers the chance to view the plans.
The proposed redesign of the market square would include a food court as well as new trees and plants, the council said.
It said council officers and members would be on hand at the exhibition to answer any questions about the plans.
The authority said during the work traders would be relocated to the former post office.
Councillor David Palethorpe, executive member for economic development, said the project would help revitalise the town.
He said: “The future plans include running a variety of events in the new market, including live music and dance, and special events for families, making Newton Abbot a go-to destination for people of all ages.
“This new market will add to the already excellent offer in Newton Abbot making it a real destination town."
The council said work was expected to begin in late summer or early autumn.
