War memorial restoration to begin
- Published
Restoration work is due to begin on two war memorials in a Lincolnshire town.
South Holland District Council said the work on the World War One and World War Two memorials in Ayscoughfee Gardens, Spalding, would take place over the coming months.
It includes repainting the names listed on both memorials to improve readability, the authority said.
Repairs to the wall and pillars of the WW1 memorial would also be carried out.
A full council meeting on Wednesday was told some of the stonework on the WW1 memorial, which was unveiled in 1922, was crumbling due to standing water.
The WW2 memorial was added more recently, within the last decade, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
During the meeting, Councillor Elizabeth Sneath, portfolio holder for health, wellbeing, conservation, and heritage, said the work was expected to be completed early next year.
