Landlords in Peterborough have been told they must apply for a new license to ensure homes are safe, free of waste and that tenants will be evicted if there is criminal activity or anti-social behaviour.

Peterborough City Council said selective licensing scheme will be introduced in parts of the city where there are high levels of privately rented accommodation and will be managed by Home Safe.

Landlords have to apply from 11 March and if they do not could face prosecution or a civil penalty of up to £30,000.

The scheme previously ran from 2016 to 2021.
