A council is cracking down on anti-social behaviour following increased reports of littering, graffiti and drug activity.

Residents and shoppers raised concerns over issues at Mill Street car park in Wantage, Oxfordshire, earlier this year.

After inspecting the area, known locally as the Undercroft, Vale of White Horse District Council has decided to put in measures to make it more "safe and welcoming".

Regular patrols will now be carried out by Wantage Neighbourhood Policing Team.

The authority has also fixed broken fence panelling to restrict access to the bank and the area behind the car park, and new signs have been put up to remind people that the area is being monitored.

Improvement works and redecoration to the deck above the car park will likely commence in spring, following talks with Sainsbury's.

Locals have been urged to report any further issues to Thames Valley Police.
