Cash boost to spruce up four play areas

West Chilton Terrace Junior Park will be getting a new roundabout

A £10,000 boost will help spruce up play parks including replacing broken equipment.
Four County Durham parks will benefit from the funding, which will pay for a new roundabout at West Chilton Terrace Junior Park and improvements at the Pentlands, Oak Crescent and South View playgrounds.
The money was allocated from Durham County Councillor Stephen Bowron's grant fund to Chilton Town Council - a pot available for councillors to spend on projects in their ward.
Sue Reece, chair of the town council, said the money would help them support efforts to look after local parks.
Councillor Nicola Lyons, the county council's cabinet member for communities, said she hoped children enjoyed the improvements.
"Children's play parks are a vital community asset for families, offering a free, fun and safe environment for children to play together and experience the benefits of being active outdoors," she said.
