Air ambulance crews feature in new Netflix series

The charity appears alongside two other leading air ambulance charities in the series

The work of an air ambulance charity is set to feature in a six-part documentary on the streaming service, Netflix.

Essex and Herts Air Ambulance Trust (EHAAT) will appear in the documentary Critical: Between Life and Death.

Dr Tony Joy, medical director of EHAAT, said: "It powerfully highlights the essential role of pre-hospital care in the patient's journey and the dedication of all those involved across the trauma system."

EHAAT is set to feature in episodes two, four and five when the series is released on 23 July.

EHAAT provides emergency care and transport across Essex and Hertfordshire, as well as surrounding areas when needed.

The charity said it attended 526 road traffic collisions, 1,029 medical emergencies, 950 accidental injuries and other trauma incidents in 2024.

The documentary was filmed over the course of 21 days and had about 40 embedded cameras in place in hospitals, ambulances and air ambulance facilities.

EHAAT said the series, made by the team behind 24 Hours in A&E, offered exclusive access to London's major trauma system and NHS and emergency teams.

One episode will show a life-threatening head injury from an assault and an open leg fracture from a motorcycle accident, both of which required urgent surgery.

Dr Joy said: "As a charity, we are incredibly grateful for the global platform this series provides.

"It's significant that the programme describes the whole patient journey, where all parts of the system play an important role in caring for our patients and their families."
