A murder investigation has been launched following the discovery of a man's body at a property in West Yorkshire.

The 59-year-old man was found at an address in Park Road, in the Crosland Moor area of Huddersfield, on Thursday.

West Yorkshire Police said officers had been called to the property at about 20:20 BST following reports of "a sudden death".

The force said a murder inquiry was launched after it was discovered the man, who has not been named, had suffered serious injuries.

Det Ch Insp Michael Cox, said officers would be carrying out reassurance patrols in the area for any concerned residents.

He also asked anyone with any information to get in touch with police.

"We have extensive enquiries ongoing into this incident and would like to hear from anyone who witnessed or heard any suspicious activity in the Park Road area on Thursday afternoon or early evening," he said.

“We understand this incident will cause some concern in the community and officers are conducting reassurance patrols in the area.”
