A 16-year-old boy who suffered serious injuries when a car he was travelling in left the road has died.

The Audi A3 Sport left the carriageway and struck nearby trees on Chain Caul Way in Preston, Lancashire, at about 22:55 BST on Tuesday.

The boy was taken to hospital but died on Wednesday, Lancashire Police said.

The driver, an 18-year-old man, suffered serious injuries and remains in a critical condition.

A 17-year-old boy who was also in the vehicle is in a stable condition, the force added.

Sgt Paul McCurrie said: “A young life has been lost, and at what must be an incredibly distressing time for them, my thoughts go out to the family and loved ones.

“We’re continuing to investigate and my thoughts also remain with the injured people and their loved ones.

“We are also continuing to ask for any witnesses, or people with dashcam footage of the Chain Caul Way area to please get in contact.”
