Three arrested after man's body found in field

Three men have been arrested after the body of a man was found in a field in Kilmacolm.

Police said they had informed the family of a 50-year-old man who was reported missing from Greenock about the discovery, which was made at about 09:20 on Tuesday.

Officers are understood to be investigating claims the 50-year-old was assaulted in Greenock then left the scene in a taxi.

Police said the arrested men were aged 44, 45 and 51 and inquiries were ongoing.

On social media, a Police Scotland spokesperson said: "The man has not formally been identified but the family of a 50-year-old man who was reported missing from Greenock on Tuesday 11 November have been made aware.

"Officers are also investigating a disturbance in Lansbury Street, Greenock, that was reported around 02:46 on Tuesday 11 November and inquiries are ongoing to establish if this is linked.

"Three men, aged 51, 45 and 44, have been arrested in connection and extensive inquiries are ongoing."
