Almost 2,000 complaints were made by residents in a county about noise.

Figures obtained by the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS) showed more than 1,800 reports were made to North Northamptonshire Council between September 2023 and August 2024.

In the last year, 601 complaints came from Kettering with the majority raising concerns about barking dogs. However, in Wellingborough and Corby, loud music was the most complained about.

The council saw an increase of about 100 complaints compared with the previous year.

Area breakdown

Figures obtained by the LDRS showed the amount of noise complaints in the last year.

  • Corby: 405

  • East Northamptonshire: 329

  • Kettering: 601

  • Wellingborough: 475

Alarms, DIY, noise from parties and construction sites, bells and aircrafts were also flagged by residents

The LDRS said in the past year, six section 80 notices were issued, which are served by a local authority to have "nuisance" noise stopped by a certain date.

If someone does not comply with the notice, they could be prosecuted and fined.

North Northamptonshire Council also issued six community protection notices (CPN) which also deal with noise nuisance.
