A man has been jailed for seven months after threatening a member of the public with a kitchen knife.

Police said James Cripps, 45, brandished the weapon in Cambridge Market Square on 8 September last year.

At Cambridge Crown Court on Tuesday, Cripps, of no fixed abode, admitted possession of an offensive weapon, possession of a knife, and using threatening behaviour with intent to cause fear or violence.

Following the conviction, officers described Cripps as a "dangerous man" who used knives to "intimidate and threaten innocent members of the public".

According to police, Cripps only stopped after "a brave Cambridge City Council worker managed to talk to him, convincing him to hand the knife over until police arrived."

PC Oliver Taylor said: "He shows no regard for the law so I'm pleased he's now behind bars."
