A man has been injured in a crash during a police pursuit in Leicester.

Leicestershire Police said the crash, involving a Seat Exeo and a Hyundai Tucson, happened at the junction of Melton Road and Checketts Road at about 03:40 BST on Monday.

The force said the Seat had failed to stop for officers who were investigating reports of vehicles being broken into in Hugglescote, Ashby, Donisthorpe, Wigston and Leicester.

The driver of the Hyundai and two people in the Seat were taken to hospital.

The force said none of their injuries were believed to be life-threatening.

The police vehicle was not involved in the crash, the force said.

A police spokesperson said a pursuit was authorised after the Seat was traced to Mount Road, in Leicester, at 03:10 but failed to stop.

Stretches of Melton Road and Checketts Road remained closed while an investigation was under way.

Drivers have been advised to avoid the area.

The force said it was linking the reports of thefts from vehicles to the crash and appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
