Mercury Prize winners English Teacher will return to their "spiritual home county" when they play at a live BBC Radio 1 event in Halifax next month.

The band, from Leeds, said they were "so excited" to be part of Radio 1’s New Music Live show at the Square Chapel Arts Centre on 20 November.

Also on the line-up will be West Yorkshire-born singer Eden Rain, singer song-writer Bea and her Business and Oxford's South Arcade.

Radio 1 head Aled Haydn Jones said it was "more important than ever" to champion small venues.

He said: "We’re thrilled to bring a night of live music to Halifax, showcasing some incredible acts.

"During a challenging time for small music venues, it’s more important than ever for us to champion these vital spaces and I’m proud that we can shine a spotlight on one of the region’s brilliant venues."

English Teacher said they were excited to be playing in "our spiritual home county of West Yorkshire," while Eden Rain said the crowd should "prepare to expect some sad songs, big songs, and me trying not to trip over on stage".

Pop/alt rock South Arcade performed on the BBC Introducing Stage at this year's Reading and Leeds Festival.

The band said: "Radio 1 have always been so supportive of us and we can’t wait for this show."

Bea Wheeler of Bea and her Business, who recently embarked on her first headline tour, promised "lots of dancing, maybe a little bit of crying and some very bad jokes".

The show will be broadcast on BBC Radio 1 from 18:00 with tickets available now.
