A three-year-old girl has died after she was pulled unconscious from a swimming pool at a Greek hotel, the BBC understands.

The girl, from Lancashire, is said to have been found at the pool in a hotel in the resort of Lardos, Rhodes, on 14 October.

She was taken to hospital on the island and then to Crete, before she was transferred to a hospital in the UK, where she died 12 days later.

A Foreign Office spokesperson said: "We are supporting the family of a British child following an incident in Greece and are in contact with the local authorities."

The girl, who died on Sunday, was reportedly in the pool for around 10 minutes before a hotel guest spotted her and CPR was performed.

The BBC has approached police in Greece for comment.
