Children services show 'promising improvements'

Children's services rated "inadequate" by Ofsted have made "promising signs of improvement", inspectors said.
Peterborough City Council was revisited in January, following a previous check in November 2023, and was said to have made "significant strides".
The schools and childcare watchdog found a new leadership team - led by the director of children's services - was "gaining momentum".
Katy Cole, a Labour councillor who is the cabinet member for children's services, said: "We will not rest on our laurels as we still have room for further improvement..."
'Impressive achievement'
In November 2023, a board of governors was set up after the council's response to child exploitation was ruled "not effective" by Ofsted and some young people had been left in "situations of risk".
By July 2024, the inspectors highlighted key areas of progress, which included experiences of care leavers aged 18-25 in challenging situations, such as unstable housing or involvement with the criminal justice system.
During their visit, inspectors reviewed the Peterborough Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH), set up by the council in August 2024.
They found MASH to be "effective" and said it was supported by clear and appropriate processes.
Inspectors said this was an "impressive achievement in a short time frame".
Cole added: "The progress we have made clearly shows that this administration's collaborative approach to working is making positive change happen in Peterborough."
The report also identified areas that still cause concern, including delays in services for a small number of children referred for additional targeted support.
Inspectors also stated the quality of interim safety plans for children at risk of harm needed to be consistent.
