A dual carriageway was closed in both directions for about 15 hours due to a "sudden death", police have said.

The A34 was shut near Abingdon, Oxfordshire, at about 21:00 GMT on Monday.

The northbound carriageway, between the A415 near Marcham and the A4183 near Kennington, was reopened shortly before 13:00, National Highways said.

The southbound carriageway remained closed until about 17:00 while Thames Valley Police officers investigated the death, which is being treated as "unexpected but not suspicious".

The force is appealing for witnesses, or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.

The police thanked the public for avoiding the scene as investigations were carried out.

Police have also been dealing with a collision overnight on the M40 near Oxford in which two men died.
