An 86-year-old visiting Jersey has been rescued by firefighters after becoming trapped onboard a small motorised train in St Helier.

Jersey Fire and Rescue Service said a crew was called at about midday to reports of the holidaymaker who had slipped while boarding the Le Petit Train and had become trapped between the seats and the vehicle body.

Five firefighters attended and used lifting and carrying sheets to free retired paramedic Maureen, who also underwent a welfare check to confirm she was safe and well.

The service said Maureen was "rescued with a smile" and engaged in "a little light-hearted flirting" afterwards, "much to everyone's delight".

Watch Commander Ryan said it was "a privilege to help Maureen".

He said: "Her warmth, humour, and life experience made the encounter memorable for all of us.

"She's a real inspiration at 86, and we wish her the very best for the rest of her holiday."

The service said the patient "charmed the crew" with humour and left "firefighters and bystanders with smiles just as big as hers".
