Two men are being questioned on suspicion of murder after a 59-year-old man died in a bungalow blaze in Peterborough.

Zbigniew Wasiak was found dead inside the home on Wootton Avenue in Fletton, after emergency crews were called to the scene at about 03:35 BST on Sunday.

A joint police and fire service investigation has determined an accelerant was used by a third party to start the fire.

The arrested men, both aged 35, remain in police custody at Thorpe Wood police station.

A post-mortem examination was due to take place on Wednesday.

Det Insp Dale Mepstead, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit, said: "We are still in the early stages of our investigation and part of the initial inquiries will be to establish why the fire was started at his home.

"We are appealing for anyone with information to come forward, particularly if you live in the area of Wootton Avenue and recall seeing or hearing anything suspicious around the time of the incident.

"I understand this is likely to be concerning to the local community, but we believe it to be an isolated incident, and we have extra patrols in the area."

Anyone with information, doorbell or dashcam footage has been asked to contact the police.
