A 40-year-old man who had been banned from a Nottingham supermarket over persistent begging has been arrested after he was spotted outside it again.

Nottinghamshire Police said he was prohibited him from entering Asda Hyson Green, and the surrounding area, after he repeatedly refused to move on when asked by staff.

Officers said he begs as a way to fund his drug habit, and after security guards spotted him outside the store on Tuesday, he was charged with breaching his criminal behaviour order.

At Nottingham Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, the case was sent to crown court for trial and he was released on unconditional bail.

'Refused to engage'

Magistrates had issued the criminal behaviour order on 23 November 2023 after the store received complaints about his persistent begging at the shop's entrance.

Insp Liz Gaskin said by his own admission, the man was a class A drug user.

"[He] persistently begs as a way to fund his drug habit.

“Sadly he has refused to engage with support organisations that would be able to offer the help he needs.

“Therefore, enforcement is the only solution available to us as we do everything possible to address people’s concerns around antisocial behaviour in Hyson Green."
