More than 1,300 people had their say on proposed policing priorities for a county over the next few years.

Darryl Preston, the Conservative police and crime commissioner (PCC) for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, set out his draft policies in a survey completed by people in July and August.

His priorities included clamping down on crime and anti-social behaviour and supporting victims of crime and witnesses.

The Police and Crime Plan is expected to be published later this year.

Police and Crime Plans set out policing priorities in each police force area, and inform the public how crime and disorder would be reduced, how policing resources would be allocated and how progress on priorities would be funded and reported.

Policing priorities outlined in the survey were grouped into four areas:

  • Early Intervention and prevention - working with police and partners to keep communities safe

  • Tackling crime and anti-social behaviour – including issues such as road safety, rural crime, and business crime

  • Supporting victims and witnesses - ensuring victims of crime have access to support services

  • Building trust and confidence in the force

About 1,360 people responded to the survey and Mr Preston said: "The majority of [those] - more than 90%, either strongly agreed or agreed with the draft priorities outlined... and 738 went on to provide optional comments."

He added: "As commissioner, one of my most important roles is to listen to the public, therefore I am pleased to see so many people taking the time to tell me their views.

"It was reassuring to read that the majority of those responding agree with the priority areas I proposed in the survey.

"These are a deliberate continuation of priorities included in my previous plan so I can progress the vital work achieved so far with partners to keep our communities safe."
