Police seal off Edinburgh's Cowgate as man arrested

Part of Edinburgh's Old Town was cordoned off by police amid reports of "items being thrown in the road".

Images from the incident in Cowgate showed several police vehicles and police officers at the scene.

Emergency services were called to the scene at about 14:10 before they closed off the area outside the restaurant Ox184.

A 40-year-old man was later arrested.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 2.05pm on Wednesday, 12 November, we received a report of concern for a person on Cowgate in Edinburgh.

"Emergency services attended.

"A 40-year-old man has been arrested and inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances."
