Two people who were travelling in a car that crashed after a police pursuit have been left with life-threatening injuries.

The man and woman, both in their 20s, were taken to hospital after the collision near Westbourne Bridge in Paddington, west London, at about 04:20 BST on Saturday.

Both are receiving medical treatment and the woman's injuries are also described as life-changing.

The police watchdog confirmed it was "assessing" the crash after being advised by police that it happened "following a short pursuit by a marked Met Police vehicle after the driver failed to stop for officers".

A spokesperson for the Independent Office for Police Conduct said: "After being notified by the force we sent investigators to the scene and to the police post-incident procedure, where the officers involved provided their initial accounts.

"We have requested further information from the force, and once received, we will determine what further action may be required from us."
