Police are appealing for information after a woman was raped in a park in East Sussex.

Officers were called to reports of a woman in her 20s having been raped in Barrack Hall Park, in Bexhill, shortly after 17:30 BST on Monday.

The suspect, who police said is not believed to have been known to the victim, is described as a white man wearing a short-sleeved top and trousers.

Anyone who was in or near the park between 16:30 and 17:30 on Monday is urged to contact Sussex Police.

Det Insp James Meanwell said: "We understand this incident will cause significant concern within the local community.

"We want to assure residents that we are working tirelessly, with dedicated patrols in place to provide reassurance and visibility while we carry out a thorough investigation.

"The victim in this investigation will continue to receive the full support of specialist officers."
