Two 14-year-old boys have been arrested and charged after four teenagers were attacked by a masked gang in Fife.

The four were walking on Pettycur Road in Kinghorn, close to the popular Pettycur Bay beach, when they were attacked by 20-30 youths at about 20:20 on 10 April.

They were taken to Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy with serious injuries.

The 14-year-olds have been released and will appear at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court at a later date. Police earlier charged a 16-year-old male over the attack.

Officers previously said most of the attackers were wearing face coverings and were thought to be between 15 and 17 years old.

Police said the beach was busy at the time due to the good weather and school holidays, and anyone with information is urged to get in touch, external.

Ch Insp Scott Davidson said: "We are committed to making sure those responsible for this serious incident are identified and we are following further positive lines of inquiry.

"I would like to reassure the public that all of those involved will be identified and shall be contacted by the inquiry team soon."
