Former pub could be turned into family home

There are plans to convert the Dog in a Doublet pub into a family home

Plans have been submitted to convert a former riverside pub into a five-bedroom home.

The Dog in a Doublet, on the North Bank of River Nene in Thorney, was run by former MasterChef contestant John McGinn before it closed in January 2023.

It has remained vacant since and fallen into disrepair.

A planning application has been submitted to Peterborough City Council, on behalf of Quaffins Ltd, to change the use of the building and demolish some of its previous extensions.

According to the planning statement, if approved, four bedrooms would be on the first floor while an additional bedroom would be on the main ground floor, along with a kitchen, utility, study, living/dining area and snug.

The main vehicle and pedestrian access would remain the same.

Developers hoped the scale of the building would be reduced through demolition, taking the building back to what it was in the late 1970s, the plans said.

The council's planning authority has yet to determine the application.
