The former Super Mahan shop had its licence revoked in 2019

A store that had its licence revoked for selling alcohol to a minor has had an application for a new one granted.

The new owner of Manhattan Supermarket on Thornley Street, Wolverhampton, has promised a "clean slate" after concerns the shop was linked to its past owner.

The former Super Mahan shop had its licence revoked in 2019, and its former owner jailed for six months following a “long history” of complaints.

The city council awarded the licence permission to Mansour Fallahi Taleghani after he told them the former owner would “play no part whatsoever” in the business.

The licensing subcommittee met earlier this month to discuss the application due to links between Mr Taleghani and the former owner after he had been present during a food safety inspection.

Mr Taleghani told police the owner was a “friend of a friend” and only he and his son would play any role in the business,  the hearing heard.

At the hearing Rob Edge, representing Mr Taleghani, said the new shop owner was “fully aware of the history of the premises” and asked to be judged on his own merits rather than the previous owner’s actions.
