The achievements of a former councillor who recently died are to be honoured by a council.

Bath and North East Somerset council is flying the City of Bath Arms at half-mast in memory of Rob Appleyard.

Mr Appleyard served as a Bath and North East Somerset councillor from 2007 to 2023 and was Chair of Council in 2012-13.

He was Mayor of Bath in 2022 and 2023 and was also made an Honorary Alderman in 2023.

'Greatly missed'

Councillor Kevin Guy, leader of Bath and North East Somerset Council, said: "Rob served the council and our community with great passion, commitment and common sense and was known for his work in advocating for the elderly and vulnerable.

"He also worked closely on local community projects and his efforts significantly improved the lives of many residents.

"Our thoughts and condolences go to Rob’s family and friends. He will be greatly missed."

Mr Appleyard served as cabinet member for Adult Services from 2019-2021, and on a wide range of other bodies including the Planning and Licensing Committees and the Avon Pension Fund.

A minute’s silence to pay respects will be held at the council meeting on 21 November.
