MP criticised over gifted Taylor Swift tickets

An MP has come under fire for accepting two tickets worth £1,660 to a sold-out Taylor Swift concert.
Newly elected Hexham MP Joe Morris was given the tickets to the pop star's Eras Tour at Wembley Stadium last month by the Premier League, according to Parliament's register of interests.
It comes as a string of senior Labour figures, including the prime minister, Keir Starmer, and his deputy, Angela Rayner, have received criticism over high-value donations.
A spokesperson for Morris said: "All donations are declared fully, in line with parliamentary rules and procedures."
The timing of the gifts was criticised by Conservative politicians in Northumberland, with the party highlighting Labour's controversial decision to end winter fuel payments for most pensioners.
A Conservative spokesperson told the Local Democracy Reporting Service Morris appeared "more interested in expensive gifts than the people he represents".
"These Taylor Swift tickets cost £1,660 - that's the same as nearly eight weeks income for some of the pensioners Morris cruelly voted to strip of their winter fuel payments," the spokesperson said.
"They now have a choice between heating and eating, whilst Morris hoovers up freebies."
Morris was one of five Labour MPs, alongside Liberal Democrat leader Ed Davey, to accept tickets to watch Taylor Swift perform in concert in London.
