Deputy Lyndon Farnham said Jersey supported the move by the UK government to recognise a Palestinian state

Jersey's chief minister has backed the UK's recognition of a Palestinian state.

Deputy Lyndon Farnham told the States Assembly the island "supports" and "respects" the move, announced by Sir Keir Starmer on 20 September.

He said he wanted to reiterate the Government of Jersey's condemnation of attacks by Hamas and criticism of Israel's actions in Gaza.

"The people of Jersey, like so many around the world, have been deeply affected by the continuing conflict in the Middle East and by the suffering it has caused," he said.
