A teenager has appeared at court charged with murder after a man was found dead on New Year's Day.

William McNicholl, 63, known as Billy, was found at a home in Hawthorn Drive, Ipswich, on 1 January.

A Home Office post-mortem examination found the cause of death was head injuries and a stab wound to the right shoulder.

Jake McMillan, 18, of Peterhouse Close, Ipswich, who is also accused of a drugs offence, did not enter a plea at Ipswich Crown Court.

A further hearing was set for 20 October and a provisional trial was scheduled for 19 January, estimated to last three weeks.

The court heard the drug charge related to being concerned in the supply of cannabis.

Judge Martyn Levett warned the public to not post anything on social media that could affect the court proceedings.

A woman aged in her 50s, previously arrested on suspicion of murder before being released on bail, has been told she will face no further action.
