Crestwood Court was described as the worst fly-tipping location in Oswestry

A fly-tipping hotspot deemed the worst in a town has been cleared.

The site next to Crestwood Court, Oswestry, Shropshire, has been an eyesore for more than a year, with dumped furniture, bags, mattresses and other items piling up.

Earlier this year, the town council paid for and installed CCTV equipment and had the area confirmed as the town's "worst fly-tipping site", after a visit from Veolia, the firm that runs Shropshire Council's waste services.

A campaign to clear the area was led by Liberal Democrat councillor Jay Moore and a team, including staff from Shropshire Council and Veolia, was set up to tackle the issue.

Moore, who represents the Gateacre Ward on the town council, said he was "extremely thankful...for everyone else involved in the process".

"I have been pushing everybody for what seems like years now to try and bring a resolution to this issue and am delighted that the area has finally been cleared," he added.

This news was gathered by the Local Democracy Reporting Service which covers councils and other public service organisations.
