A man has been arrested after a hit-and-run crash left a woman with a fractured spine.

Freya Theobold has undergone spinal surgery at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham after her car was hit by a stolen vehicle on Stafford Road in Wolverhampton on Monday.

An 18-year-old man was arrested on Friday on suspicion of vehicle theft and dangerous driving.

West Midlands Police said he had been released on bail, with strict conditions, as investigations continue.

Ms Theobold remains in hospital in a serious condition.

Her father appealed for information around the crash and said the family were devastated.

Ms Theobold was working as a carer and two weeks into a nursing degree.

It is believed a silver car crossed the A449 central reservation at speed, hitting the car she and a colleague were in.
