A Leicestershire MP has said he is recovering well after undergoing spinal surgery.

Dr Luke Evans, Conservative MP for Hinckley & Bosworth, issued a statement to explain why he has been wearing a medical collar.

He said he underwent an operation for a slipped disc in his neck two weeks ago, but will attend the party conference in Birmingham - which runs until Wednesday.

He will also return to parliamentary duties while continuing to wear the collar.

In an update on X, external, he said: "I know some of you may have seen me out and about with a soft collar on and wondered what's going on.

"I am doing well and will be out and about at Party Conference over the next couple of days and in Parliament, but will have 'the cone of shame' for a few more weeks!"
