Police have been granted extra powers to break-up large groups after a seafront fight involving multiple people.
Officers were called to the disorder in Marine Parade, Southend-on-Sea, on Friday evening, but no offences were reported.
A dispersal order was put in place until 19:30 BST on Saturday, covering the city centre and area surrounding the pier.
"These are busy parts of our district in the summer months and everyone is entitled to use these spaces in a respectful manner," said acting Insp Luke Gamman.
