Sussex students weigh up options on results day

Students across Sussex have been receiving their exam results, with some hopeful of university places while others eye up industry roles.

Joshua Rowley, who studied a BTec in uniformed protective services at East Sussex College, in Eastbourne, said he is considering a career in the police force, but may return to the college to sit A-levels.

“I got distinction star, distinction, distinction, which I’m very pleased with,” he said. “I’ve put in a lot of hard work and I’m very proud of what’s come out of it.”

Those studying A-levels, T-levels and BTec Nationals in the UK got their results at 08:00 BST, with 30.8% of students in the South East achieving A* and A grades – up 0.5% on last year.

Rebecca Conroy, chief executive at East Sussex College, said: “It’s always such a big day. We’re all really excited for our students. They’ve worked so hard.

“We just pray that everyone’s happy with their results.”

Both East and West Sussex county councils congratulated students on their results, saying they should all be proud of their efforts.

They also offered support to students who may not have received the results they had hoped for.

Councillor Bob Standley, from East Sussex County Council, said: “We know that not everyone will have the results they wanted today, and we encourage all to make use of the available resources to help navigate their next steps.”
