Warning after island ferry service suffers fault

The mechanical issue requires the vessel to run at a reduced speed, the operator said

A ferry from Cornwall to the Isles of Scilly has suffered a mechanical fault, extending transit time.

The Isles of Scilly Travel said the Scillonian III, which runs from Penzance to St Mary's, suffered the fault on Saturday.

It said the ferry was running with reduced engine power meaning the journey, which usually takes about two hours and 45 minutes, will take about four hours.

It said some day trip bookings from 3 September until 7 September had been cancelled, but the ferry service continued to operate.

Departure times have also been changed, it said.

Isles of Scilly Travel said work was under way to fix the fault and adjustments to the timetable had been made up until 7 September.

"There are still travel options available for passengers that need to get to and from the islands," it said.

Isles of Scilly Travel has apologised for "the slight disruption".
