Two men arrested over Staffordshire disorder

The Staffordshire force said it was using drone surveillance to gather footage of those involved in the disorder

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder following major disturbances in Staffordshire which came amid a wave of UK unrest.

The men, aged 38 and 60 and from Tamworth, remain in custody for questioning as part of a police investigation into events earlier this month, said the Staffordshire force.

The 38-year-old has also been arrested on suspicion of assault by beating of an emergency worker.

Multiple arrests have followed disorder in the county which saw missiles hurled at police in Stoke-on-Trent on 3 August and rioters descend on the Holiday Inn Express hotel in Tamworth the following day, during which petrol bombs were thrown.

The disorder was sparked by online misinformation that the suspect in the fatal stabbing of three girls in Southport on 29 July was a Muslim asylum seeker.
