A police officer has been charged with controlling and coercive behaviour.

PC Sam James Wilson is alleged to have committed the offence against a woman known to him between January 2022 and August 2023, according to Sussex Police.

He is "alleged to have engaged in controlling and coercive behaviour both on and off-duty", the force confirmed to the BBC.

The 30-year-old is currently suspended from duty, a police spokesperson said.

He was charged following an investigation by the force's safeguarding investigations unit.

Mr Wilson is due to appear at Worthing Magistrates' Court on 28 April.
