A fairground worker died after suffering head injuries, an inquest has heard.

Corrie Lee Stavers, 28, from Sunderland was working at the Spanish City summer funfair in Whitley Bay on 23 August when he was fatally injured.

The event, operated by the Turner's Funfairs company, was due to run throughout the Bank Holiday weekend but was closed following Mr Stavers death and the Health and Safety Executive informed.

At a brief hearing in Newcastle, assistant coroner Paul Dunn adjourned the inquest to a future date, pending further investigation.

The day after he died, Mr Stavers' family issued a tribute to him in which they said: "Our lives will never be the same without him, but his memory will live on in our hearts forever.

"We love you endlessly, Corrie, and we miss you more than words can ever say."
