A special tea party has been held for kinship foster parents in Wolverhampton, to honour the "immeasurable" role they play in children's lives.

The event was held to mark Kinship Care Week 2025 and included a scrapbook making activity as well as discussions about the work foster parents do.

Kinship foster parents are family members or close friends who provide homes to children, allowing them to stay within familiar surroundings.

It means the child can receive "unwavering support", City of Wolverhampton Council said, while preserving their family connections and identity.

Councillor Jacqui Coogan, the authority's cabinet member for children, said Wednesday's event was a "celebration" and a "reminder of the essential role kinship foster parents play".

"Kinship foster parents often step in during times of crisis, offering stability and love when it's needed most," she said.

"Their contribution to the wellbeing of children in Wolverhampton is immeasurable and it's vital we continue to recognise and support them."
