Man arrested over fatal hit-and-run crash

A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving following a fatal hit-and-run crash on a pedestrian crossing in Birmingham.

The crash happened near Longbridge railway station on Longbridge Lane, Northfield, on Sunday at about 23:15 BST, West Midlands Police said.

A 34-year-old man was taken to hospital where he died from his injuries a short time later.

The suspect, aged 40, remains in custody, according to the force.

Police said the family of the deceased were being supported by specially trained officers.

The force is still appealing for information.

Sgt Rich Evans urged anyone with dashcam, doorbell or CCTV footage that could help the investigation to come forward.
