A car has crashed into a pub, wrecking a bar area but avoiding customers who were inside at the time.

Police and firefighters were called to the Windmill Inn in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, on Wednesday evening.

A black BMW could be seen smashed into the side of the pub. The outside wall collapsed leaving broken brick, wooden doors and framing scattered. People living close to the building were moved out of their homes.

Two people are thought to have fled the scene but a 39-year-old man was later arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, driving without insurance, failing to stop after an accident, drink driving and driving without a licence.
