Repairs have been carried out to a "neglected" Grade II listed building after a council enforcement order was issued.

North Lincolnshire Council said the former Oddfellows Hall in Barton-upon-Humber had fallen into a state of disrepair and was at risk of further deterioration.

The authority said the owner had since fully complied with the order.

Councillor Paul Vickers said it was "disappointing when our significant and historic buildings are not upkept as they should be".

He said: “The council has a duty to preserve or enhance the appearance and character of our listed buildings and so had to step in."

The building, which was constructed in 1864, was previously used as a cinema, roller-skating rink and a dancehall.

More recently, a small number of flats occupied the ground floor.

Council officials said the order was issued after reports of broken glass falling from the upper windows and blocked gutters and drains.

"The end result in this case is a positive one with the building benefitting from many repairs," Vickers added.
