Police officers seized a hammer, fireworks and cannabis during a dispersal order in Arnold.

Nottinghamshire Police put the 48-hour order in place from Wednesday after concerns were raised over anti-social behaviour from young people in the run-up to Halloween.

Section 35 notices, which allow officers to exclude a person from an area for up to 48 hours, were handed out to eight under 18s.

A boy, 16, was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon in relation to the hammer that was seized, the force said.

The dispersal order covered the town centre and local parks.

Failure to comply with the order can result in arrest, police said.

Ch Insp Riz Khan said: “The vast majority of young people have been out enjoying Halloween in the community.

“Sadly, however, we did have to respond to several reports of isolated anti-social behaviour.

“The dispersal order allowed us to target groups who were perceived as causing or likely to cause nuisance."

Michael Payne, MP for Gedling, said on social media there are "additional police patrols in and around Arnold at present".

"I will be keeping in close contact with police colleagues over the coming days and will do all I can to ensure tackling this sort of behaviour remains a top priority," he added.
