A young mum and influencer says building an online community helped her cope with the "chaos of motherhood".

Nyah Schiessl, 24, from Jersey, said she "wasn't prepared at all" when she found out she was pregnant just after celebrating her 20th birthday.

After giving birth to Birdie, Ms Schiessl, who now has more than 10,000 followers on Instagram, said she connected with other parents through social media to help her feel less alone and share the experience of motherhood.

"When I found out I was having Birdie, obviously none of my friends were having babies. I was so on my own with it all. To be able to get online and find that community has been so special for us," she said.

Ms Schiessl said becoming a mum was the "best thing that ever happened to me"

Ms Schiessl said she felt "so scared" after discovering she was pregnant, but said she had learnt "so much".

"We were so scared, but we just had no idea how beautiful life was about to become. It ended up being, honestly, the best thing that ever happened to me," she said.

"You have to just let go of everything, all of your expectations and really just let the whole experience guide you.

The 24-year old also uses her social media platform to share her belief in the benefits of nature, something she believes is "really important" for children and parents.

"It's gonna be the most beautiful journey"

"I didn't think nature would ever have such a big role in how I raise my kids, but I guess naturally I found out that was where we both felt most at peace, where she learnt the most," she said.

"It's nice to have that in the chaos of motherhood, that you know it's reliably there. We can always go back to nature to just find our calm.

"I think in the modern world obviously so many kids are just tied to their screens. I think it's really important to have that natural, calm stimulation."
