Tougher measures will be introduced to tackle dangerous driving and "reckless behaviour" at a park and ride site, a council has announced.

Sixty-five complaints have been submitted to South Cambridgeshire District Council about anti-social behaviour at the Milton Park and Ride near Cambridge over the last two years.

The council said 94% of 125 people who took part in a public consultation were in favour of introducing a public space protection order (PSPO) for the site in Butt Lane.

The PSPO was voted through at a cabinet meeting on Tuesday, external.

"People want action," said Liberal Democrat Natalie Warren-Green, who is the lead cabinet member for environment.

"This PSPO gives us the tools to tackle the reckless behaviour that's been causing distress."

The complaints had included reports of speeding cars and motorbikes, revving engines, drivers performing burnouts, and the playing of loud music.

The PSPO gives the council authority to issue fines to perpetrators and people can be prosecuted in court.

Cambridgeshire County Council has installed automatic number plate recognition cameras which will be used to enforce the PSPO.
